Latina Congresswomen Prove Once Again the Poor State of Latino Congressional Leadership

Congressional Quarterly is reporting that Congressional Latina Representatives boycotted a meeting with Barack Obama. Although their reasons for boycotting are unclear, the presumption is that they did so out of some misdirected alleigance to Hillary Clinton. (Never mind that Sen. Clinton has thrown her support behind Sen. Obama.) Loretta Sanchez, who is one of two sisters in Congress, presumably building up a family business, was quoted as saying that if Obama wanted to see her, the presumptive Presidential candidate, could " come over and see me." Never ones to miss an opportunity to make Latinos look foolish, you may recall that Loretta's sister kept the comedy circuit abuzz when she proclaimed that another Latino representative had called her a whore, they have now snubbed the likely next president of the United States. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. So much for Latino leverage with the next presidential administration.

Readers may want to review my prior post entitled, "Why is the Congressional Latino Leadership so Mediocre?".

I'm glad to see that someone else in the Latino blogsphere wrote about this today. :)

The fact of the matter is that Loretta Sanchez needs Obama more than he needs her. I cannot understand why she doesn't see this...

I live in Linda Sanchez' Congressional District. I have had some good response from her staff on other issues related to immigration and I am getting them to call me back. I have not raised this issue yet--my likely question for her is what can she do to help influence then next administration on comprehensive immigration reform--staff at her office say she is all about that. Any suggestions on how to emphasize the importance of cooperation?

Thanks for your post. I enjoy reading you.
